I have not seen this movie but I will now. It sounds completely un-Chair-like (which I didn't mind but your take on it articulated much of what I felt). I love that you used the word "patience" in a not-pejorative sense. I also love how you point out that physicality doesn't mean bright lights and big moves, but that the most awkward, tense moments are in the retreating light, when we don't look away to the next shiny object. Loved this analysis. I watched this film earlier this year and thought it was raw and gorgeous. Your observation that it 'doesn't cut away from the awkward moments of life' is so correct and I think cuts to the heart of why I loved this film so much. I feel the same way about another film I watched recently, Toni Erdmann - a film with a totally different pitch to The Nest but bookended by the same questions concerning the narratives we spin for ourselves and others just to feel like we're in control for a single second.
